Ethical Practice

Producing well also means producing in a way that's traceable, responsible, able to look beyond the single piece. From certifications to energy, from steel to waste recovery, for Bordoni Bonfiglio every production choice is also an ethical choice.

Certifications

Every piece that leaves this workshop is traceable. Whoever receives it knows where the raw material comes from, how it was processed, and to what standards. EN 1090 certification — CE marking for steel structural components — runs through every phase of the production process: cutting, welding, materials. It doesn't certify only the final result, but the way that result is reached.

Solar Power Plant

In 2011 Bordoni Bonfiglio installs its first solar power plant, 200 kWp. It hasn't stopped since: in 2022 and 2024 two repowering interventions add 370 and 130 kWp respectively, bringing total capacity to 700 kWp; in 2026 a revamping optimizes the first plant.

Every laser cut, every weld, every process has an energy cost. Producing that energy from a renewable source reduces the environmental impact of every single piece that leaves the workshop, frees production from market dynamics beyond anyone's control, and eases the load on the local energy grid.

SSAB

A product's sustainability can't be separated from the choice of raw materials.

That's why Bordoni Bonfiglio relies on SSAB steels: a choice that combines high technical performance, reliability, and attention to supply chain sustainability, and a forward-looking vision of that supply chain.

Traditionally, steel is produced in blast furnaces, where coke coal separates oxygen from iron ore. It's precisely this process that generates most of the steel industry's CO₂ emissions.

Through the HYBRIT project, SSAB is leading one of the most advanced transformation paths in the European steel industry, progressively replacing traditional blast furnaces with technologies based on process electrification and the use of hydrogen. a path aimed at drastically reducing the CO₂ emissions associated with steel production.

Nestart, Bordoni's spin-off

Every day, working the sheet metal, Bordoni Bonfiglio generates offcut sheets - a physiological waste of the processing - which, traditionally, are sent for smelting. In 2019 Nestart is born, a spin-off that moves from a simple question: what if that waste could become a new raw material?

The name combines nesting - the process of optimizing sheet metal cutting - and art. From these sheets, design objects take shape: tables, seating, lamps, decorative panels and urban furniture. Every piece is unrepeatable, because the shape of the steel sheet depends on that day's processing and is never the same twice.

It's an example of upcycling: not traditional recycling, which melts the material down to restore its original properties, but an improving conversion, which transforms waste into something of greater value. An approach that can reduce processing waste from 30-35% to 1.4%.

Recognition arrives right away: in 2019 the Rebell table wins the award of the same name dedicated to emerging designers; two international A' Design Awards follow, selection by ICE for Maison&Objet in Paris and, over the years, recognition from the Emilia-Romagna Region as part of the Responsible Innovators Award.

Nestart also dialogues with Rolo's tradition of wood inlay - that same care for materials, that same attention to detail, reinterpreted through laser and steel. A thread that connects the eighteenth century to today, passing through a metal fabrication workshop.

PROJECTS CO-FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND

Solar Power Plant 150,00 kWp

Thanks to the support of the POR FESR 2014-2020 program (Axis 4 – Action 4.2.1), a 150 kWp solar power plant was installed, with high-efficiency panels and string inverters, for on-site energy self-consumption: an investment that today covers most of the company's annual energy needs.

  Nestart at Fuorisalone 2022

Thanks to co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, in 2022 NestArt — our innovative startup — was able to take part in the Fuorisalone – Design Week Edition in Milan, bringing to a wide audience a design project still in an experimental phase but already full of meaning. An opportunity for visibility that made it possible to build new relationships, including international ones, and to give momentum to the brand's growth.
